With the recent news that Nintendo is shutting down Pokemon Bank, I've decided to ramp up my Living Dex challenge. Bank is the only way I have to transfer Pokemon from the DS and 3DS games over to Home legitimately so it's a real shame they're shutting it down in what appears to be a slow rollout of the older games onto the eShop.
At the very least, I need to play through Omega Ruby, Platinum, Black, X, and Moon before shutdown at the end of February. That means I'll be skipping White 2 and Ultra Sun, but being sequels I don't think they have any exclusive Pokemon that can't be caught in later Switch games. That gives me 6 months to finish 5 games, and I'm currently at a 30 hour per game completion rate. That means I need to play a little less than an hour a day to finish up.
Luckily, the 3DS games have quite a few QOL features that make capturing easier. The DexNav helps me find rare Pokemon, and also tells me when I've captured everything on a route. I had never really played any of the 3DS games, so the way they streamline things is pretty nice. I'm moving through Omega Ruby pretty quickly, and it's a fun game besides.
I'll have a Hoenn update post pretty soon.
Verdict: Keep Playing
