Risk of Rain Returns

June 27, 2026 - Reading time: ~1 minute - Category: game library project

Despite owning it for many years, the original Risk of Rain wasn't a game I played a ton of. I like roguelikes, but for some reason the original Risk of Rain never really appealed to me, maybe for the lake of true controller support. I decided to pick the remake up on a whim, and I've played a couple runs.

I like it. There seems to be a good variety of biomes, and while I've only played as the first character, the character selection screen and the steady collection of unlocks I've already found promise a huge variety. Controls are pretty simple, your main attack is on left trigger, and abilities are on the right trigger and shoulder buttons. It works great, and while the default character has pretty basic machine gun abilities, the other characters seem more varied.

This will likely be one of those games I always keep installed and play every now and then.

Verdict: Timewaster
