Cocaine Bear (2023) review

May 24, 2026 - Reading time: ~1 minute - Category: reviews

Cocaine Bear is a black comedy horror film that, while being surprisingly funny at some points, is pretty underwhelming when taken as a whole.

The premise is based on the true story of a bear that overdosed on cocaine dropped by some drug dealers in the mountains of Tennessee. In this version, the bear instead gets addicted to coke and terrorizes visitors to the park it resides in. What results is a poorly paced movie with too many subplots and characters that feels at once too quick and also about 20 minutes too long, despite being only about 90 minutes long.

The characters are one-note, the storylines predictable, and the gore underwhelming. There are a few funny one-liners and physical comedy bits, but none of it's enough to elevate this movie beyond "dumb movie you through on in the background". There's much better comedy and horror out there. Don't bother unless you like these goofy monster movies.
