Tales of the Sun Eater, Volume 1 is a collection of short stories set in the Sun Eater universe. It can technically be read at any point but fits in best after the second main novel.
It's fine. Like all short story collections, some are stronger than others. The stories that feature Hadrian are the longest and best. The other stories are maybe a bit too short, and the unfamiliar one-off characters aren't very engaging. These stories aren't bad, but they're definitely "filler" and not necessary at all for the larger story.
3.5 stars if I could, but not quite good enough for me to stretch to 4.
