Tales of the Sun Eater, Volume 3 review

August 12, 2026 - Reading time: ~1 minute - Category: reviews

Tales of the Sun Eater, Volume 3 is the third collection of short stories set in the Sun Eater universe, meant to be read after the 5th main entry. Like the other collections, it's weaker than the main entries but has a few highlights.

While I enjoy the way the stories fill in the gaps in the worldbuilding and take us to places we don't get to see in the main series, the tales here just aren't very compelling. As always, the stories that feature characters from the main series are the best, but even those weren't terribly interesting for me. The best story in the group is the last, which features Hadrian.

These short story collections are by no means required reading. I think if you're a fan of the series it's a good idea to read them, but you'll be just fine skipping them if you'd rather focus just on the novels.
